Policies and Procedures: Whistle Blower Policy

Purpose

The Williamsburg Players is committed to operating its tax-exempt compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including those concerning accounting and auditing, and prohibits fraudulent practices by any of its board members, officers, employees (if any), or volunteers.

This policy outlines a procedure for a volunteer or employee to report actions that he or she reasonably believes violates a law, or regulation or that constitutes fraud. This policy applies to any matter which is related to the Williamsburg Players business and does not relate to private acts of an individual not connected to the business of the Williamsburg Players.

Policies

If a volunteer or employee has a reasonable belief that another volunteer or employee of the Williamsburg Players has engaged in any action that violates any applicable law, regulation, or anything that constitutes fraud, the volunteer or employee is expected to immediately report such information to the president of the Board of Directors. If the volunteer or employee does not feel comfortable reporting the information to the president, he or she is expected to report the information to any member of the Executive Committee.

All reports will be followed up promptly and an investigation conducted. In conducting its investigations, the Williamsburg Players will strive to keep the identity of the complaining individual as confidential as possible, while conducting an adequate review and investigation. The Williamsburg Players will not retaliate against any volunteer or employee that: (a) reports to member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, or to a federal, state or local agency what the volunteer believes in good faith and with credibility to be a violation of the law; or (b) participates in good faith in any resulting investigation or proceeding.

The Williamsburg Players may take disciplinary action (up to and including termination) against any volunteer or employee who, in the Board of Director’s assessment, has engaged in retaliatory conduct in violation of this policy. All Board of Director members and staff members of the Williamsburg Players will be trained on this policy.
